Guard Your Reputation – Don’t Sell Junk!
Health Coaches…be careful what you tie your reputation to. “JUST SAY NO” to… gel wraps (chemicals that you rub on you to get rid of cellulite)….vibrating belts, earrings with magnets, diuretic pills, surgery to remove fat….. You can eat healthy and lose weight. When a diet promises rapid weight loss …tell your clients that if they don’t make permanent changes – they may as well have gone fast food hopping….or worse. Some of these things can cause long term damage!
Just because something says “no long term proven damage”…doesn’t mean that it is safe! We know that just because damaging effects are not proven, doesn’t mean that they aren’t there. We also know that there are a lot of things being sold to us in our neighborhood grocery store that cause long term damage…little things like cancer, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, blood disorders…….
These companies are not interested in transforming lives, they want to transform their pocket books. Meal substitutes, magic potions in drinks and pills…are not being pushed on you for the benefit of the consumer. We, students and graduates of the most prestigious nutrition school in the world…are certified to know better.
There are many great products out there. Natural and healthful that are great tools to enhance health. They are wonderful offerings for our business and our clients. When you are vetting vendors (I made that up), make sure that you have checked out the business, where they get there products, how the products are produced, what is in their products, how they are delivered…and even, what they do with their money after it is made. Check out our “Business Plans for Health Coaches” for more on passive income streams and how to select the right products and services to promote.
We are currently looking at different vendors. I would like to provide a totally unbiased and productive, third party spread sheet that weighs the pros and cons of vitamin and supplement companies as well as all the beauty and skin care. We are very excited to have all the safe, natural and health promoting products that are available to us. Safe and careful discernment now can offer a lot of great benefits and products to our clients.
Health Coaches have a lot of knowledge, growing impact and with that …growing power to change the world in positive ways. This brings added responsibility. Be careful what you offer to your clients.

Hi Cathy,
I like you decision about quality of services and of products. I like to use doTERRA essential oils as they are the only Certified Pure Theurapeutic Grade EOils on Earth. The company was created to set the highest standards in EOils quality.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely, Elena Kiryanova.
I don’t sell anything on my website except my services and provide free information on how to heal digestion. There are a lot of products that I use personally that I would tie my reputation to but I haven’t gone that route yet. I share this info with my clients though if they are interested.
I couldn’t agree with you more. I align myself with doTERRA essential oils because they healed my back and continue to heal SO many other things. It was a no-brainer for me. I had sold the Goji Juice before from FreeLife but now I just by the less expensive and organic Dynamic brand at the health food store. I tried Arbonne years ago and was allergic to the products so no matter how good they were, I couldn’t use it so I dropped it. I have been asked to promote products that didn’t align with my message and weren’t the quality I was looking for and easily declined.I think we all have to be incredibly passionate about our products and believe in them.Once again Cathy you have quite the message. Thank you!
Thank you for bringing up such an important topic and excellent message this morning! I have aligned by health coaching practice with Navitas Naturals with superfoods all of which are Non-GMO and certified organic (www.reujuicebar.com) It is just real whole foods that are a fantastic way to get a quick and easy nutrient dense beverage into you life for more energy, balance and vitality. Also after much resistance at first aligned myself with Juice Plus. My first concern was I don’t want to recommend a “pill” to my clients as my goal is to connect them back to real whole foods. However, I found in my home my children and husband were sometimes resistant to some of the things I was incorporating at mealtimes and sometimes we are just so busy I opened my mind enough to listen to my friend about Juice Plus. Come to find out it is just fruits and veggies in a capsule or gummy. Really? Is whole food with the fiber and all that fills that gap between what they won’t or don’t eat. I’m very thankful as its been such an important anchor in my home and feel comfortable aligning my practice with such a reputable company that has been in business for 20 years. The quality is top notch and NSA actually tests multiple times for pesticides and herbicides to ensure is a clean product. If interested ask me about how kids eat free!
Cathy, this is a fantastic piece. You are absolutely right that what we health coaches ‘sell’ is a major aspect of our image and reputation and we should guard it like the Holy Grail. Thank you for taking the time to point out some very important need to know facts.
Cheers.
Cathy, this is a fantastic thread. This is so important because we are known by the company we keep.
I only choose to be associated with top notch products.
Like Amber, I share Juice Plus+ with my clients. Just to add to Ambers comment, Juice Plus+ is backed by a whopping 31 international, independent, clinical studies from only the highest calibre medical universities and hospitals around the world, most of which are double blind, placebo controlled, randomized, crossover clinical trials published in peer reviewed medical journals.
I also share Mila Chia seeds for omega 3, protein, fiber and other nutrients.
doTerra is our wellness centers choice for E.O. and our skin are products are natural as well.
HTE is our source for quality therapeutic medical devices for motion, electrical and thermal holistic maintenance in doctors offices, spas, fitness centers and homes alike.
It is of the utmost importance that we are only aligned with quality products and companies with a proven reliable history.
Again, awesome thread.
Hi Cathy, great post!
Thank you for sharing…it is so important really know who/what we offer to our clients. If we don’t do our homework, they will and then their trust in us has big dent in it.
And, zowey, that can hurt soooo much!
It can also be rather difficult to unravel yourself from a company that you have decided is not in alignment with your values as a coach.
I have been as Essential Oil user for over 5 years and have aligned myself with DoTerra. Because my whole practice is based on a holistic detox lifestyle & I enjoy luxurious aromas and oils from antiquity I use and recommend DoTerra products.
Kia Ora dear friends,
I’ve read your thoughts and feelings with avid interest and in all truth, admiration! Why? Simply because you all seem to embody the spirit of LOVE – Truth, Integrity, Consideration, Respect and absolute Reverence for what you represent. Namely yourselves and Health/Well-being.Good on You!
YES I too work in the health/fitness industry and am aware of the plethora of cleverly marketed products. Most making misleading and untrue claims. Unfortunately desperate people are easy prey to many of these commercial giants as the use of celebrities tends to give the product instant kudos and thus credibility amongst the masses.
What is the answer? Information, Education and leading from the front – be a role model! Live & Breath Health & Vitality and people can’t help but sit up and pay attention. Thank you.
Wishing you all Infinite Health, Wealth, Peace, Love & Happiness…Namaste – Damon
Hi Cathy!
This is such an important conversation to continue having. I’ve found that if it hasn’t benefited me personally, it’s not something I feel comfortable promoting. Thank you for bringing up this topic! Xx
Great reminder for us all Cathy (whether we’re health coaches or not) to check out the validity of anything promising instant results.
Cathy – I agree. 3rd party reviews, testing and quality assurance are essential. These are the important sources I review. The “Nutrisearch Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements” rates over 1600 products on 18 different health categories by 12 independent nutritional authorities. It is an excellent benchmark guide. I also reference “ConsumerLab.com” whose mission is to identify the best quality health and nutritional products through independent testing. They constantly report quality violations. Also, 3rd party certifications and standards are important such as NSF, Pharmaceutical GMPs, USP, TGA, Informed-Choice, HFL Sport Science and quality control testing that includes HPLC, ICP-MS, FTIR and GLC. I also look for FDA registered and in-house manufacturing facilities. There are also key relationships quality companies maintain such as the United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA)and the Council for Responsible Nutrition. The products I align myself with pass all of these. Quite a comprehensive list and important for where I trust my health!
Pam, I knew you would have valuable information on this one! I may copy this and use it on a follow up blog. I also wanted to talk to you again, I will email you. Thank you!
Cathy, although I’m not a health professional myself, I appreciate your candor to others to make sure they believe in what they support. I think every business owner should have high standards.
I am fully committed to the whole food nutrition in Juice Plus+. After three years as a rep, I have seen firsthand what the nutrition from 27 fruits and veggies does for my customers. Watching their bodies heal is an amazing gift. If you’d like to explore it further my website is http://www.nancyoglesby.com
Does anyone have comments on Young Living essential oils? I am interested in their Thieves cleaning products. But also, how do the oils/products compare to DoTerra? Thank you. Definitely getting involved with Juice Plus, and love their garden towers!
