How I Build My List

Mine grew with prior planning and a great product.

I have been one of the lucky ones.  For about five years, my list grew primarily because of the popularity of The Inner Circle and from product advertising and word of mouth.  It has increased steadily.

During this time, I also produced a weekly blog and newsletter.  The blog and newsletter attracted readers and followers.  They opted in for my newsletter.  Facebook is my primary social media platform.  We are moving toward 100,000 health coach and health coach hopefuls who follow that page.

Those people opt into my list eventually and sometimes; they go straight from Facebook to purchase. An opt-in is an opportunity for your prospective client to experience what you have to offer without obligation or cost. It makes it easy for “clients to be” to keep in contact with your business without thought or to have to take action. For them, it’s easy as can be.  For you…it will take a little more effort.

Social media can direct people to opt in to your list.

Choose your social media platform that speaks to your niche.  Promote your opt-in like it is your most important product (and make it something that will be life-changing for your customer).

Other considerations, aside from your launch plan, is everyday activity.

It is essential that you make a plan and consistently follow it.

At the bottom of this page, you may “opt-in” for some of my free information.  I put together a business plan for marketing to help get you started in the right direction.

The first page shows you day to day activity to get your opt-in ready and launched.  The timing can be longer or shorter (not much quicker) – depending on the time you have to allocate and the amount of material you will be putting into the opt-in product itself, as well as your proficiency in each of the tasks.  You can expect it will take a little longer if you need to learn how to set up an opt-in form in your auto-responder and then learn how to put it in place.

The second page shows you day to day marketing activity that should be taking place throughout the year and while you are getting your opt-in ready to launch.

The third page gives you a sample annual promotion plan.

The sooner you start making business plans and following them consistently, the sooner you will grow your list.

Take these steps to start building your list today:

Create an opt-in “product” that offers real value to your niche.  It could be a recipe book, a tip sheet, a great info-graphic.  It doesn’t have to be huge; it just needs to be something that can share value with your customer, show your expertise and create desire.  – IF you have been working at building content since you started – you may take this, compile it and rebrand it for a beautiful opt-in that represents a lot of your work and is already done for the most part.)  The Inner Circle will be working on brainstorming opt-in offers in a couple of weeks.

  • Gather your testimonials.  If you need to, give out a few and ask for their honest opinions.
  • Create a “squeeze page” for your opt-in.
  • Create a “sales video.”
  • Create the actual opt-in form to be placed in your promotions.  The form should be created in your auto-responder (a-weber, MailChimp, Infusionsoft, etc.)
  • Plan and schedule a webinar to explain your free content.
  • Promote your product on social media, in your blog and newsletter, through your partners, affiliates, advertise and
  • Create and share a weekly (or whatever-just be very consistent) blog and newsletter
  • Be consistent and energetic all the time on 1 or 2 chosen social media platforms – offer your opt-in through posts and advertising all the time
  • Create your emails for the opt-in

You should treat your opt-in like it is one of your finest products up for sale.  It took me a while to learn this.  Your opt-in is a representative of your work, so you want to be sure it represents you well.  It also took me a few tries at different opt-ins to get the one that speaks to my niche.  Be willing to learn as you go and make adjustments and you will do just fine.

We will discuss how to decide what your niche will find valuable.  Look at some opt-ins that work.  Go over several different options you have in the way of form.  We’ll discuss the importance of branding consistency, and I will be answering questions about how and why to market your opt-in.
