How to Help During the Coronavirus and After

There is nothing like helping others to feel better yourself.  Once you help others, and others see you helping, they want to help too.  It’s like a giant snowball of goodness rolling down the hill when it grows and everyone joins in.

During crisis times, if you watch for what is good, it’s amazing what you see.  All of a sudden, it seems like everyone’s heart is glowing with goodness, acceptance, and community.

During the last few weeks, I’ve seen some amazing examples of people doing good things for others, just out of the goodness of their heart and as good citizens of something bigger than themselves.  I’m so proud to be a human being right now.

If you keep your thoughts open to creative ideas, by learning what people need, it’s like your business, you know how to help.

We had just created this coloring book to help to teach healthy habits and de-stress at the same time.  My county health center said they’d just secluded everyone to their rooms and they were asking for help with coloring and activity books, dolls, and cards.  I was so happy to find a printer who printed them on very high quality paper for the price of the paper.  Don’t ask me why I had 464 unused markers in my drawer, but it has something to do with me buying the kit and only using the colors I like.  So I gave them those.  I also found 800 crayola markers at Walmart for $35!  So, those people (about 200 of them) are having fun coloring now.  I think about them and it makes me happy.  We then took the books and offered them to you to use as you like to help (which was our original plan).  Now we have kids and grownups coloring, the Red Cross is sending them out, and they’re free.  This was such a wonderful way to make a small contribution.  I’m hoping to get some colored tip pages back from your customers and organizations to share with you!

Having a sense of purpose and helping others often helps us to get through the harder times.  Feeling good about what we do and being able to make a difference in the lives of others is important to many of us.

SANITATION WORKERS served wine to nurses outside a hospital that was hit hard with cases of coronavirus.

Other exciting stories where we see ordinary people stepping up, include a group in England who “Macgyvored” a respirator that could be built quickly, many health coaches sitting at home and dusting off their sewing machines to make masks for those in need as well as fundraising.  The incredible people in health care who are going in and putting themselves in harms way to help others.  There are parents staying home and educating their kids and working from home at the same time.  A wave and a smile as you pass (6 feet away) in the neighborhood can make an elderly person who is home alone all day and all night, feel a little bit connected.

I’ve seen thank you’s for surprise baskets of goodies showing up on a neighbors doorstep.  There is so much good, the more you participate, the better it feels.

Some random acts of kindness;

  •  Call your mom and dad.
  • Call your kids if they’re grown.
  • Tell someone that you appreciate them.
  • Be especially nice to the person you’re “closed up” with.  That will make them happier and you too.  Do something extra nice at least once daily.
  • Pick a household chore to do every day and don’t complain about it.
  • Send a text to three people a day to remind them that you care.  It can be a joke, motivational, to encourage them, or to just say “I love you.”
  • Play with your pet.
  • Take your dog for a walk.
  • Donate to charity if you can.
  • Listen, especially if you know someone alone or depressed.
  • Teach someone something new.
  • Celebrate Mother’s Day or Father’s Day of 4th of July early and send a gift that will make their days more meaningful and fun.

There are many ways to spend time with family that can bring you closer, even if you aren’t in the same room, city, or country.  Watch a movie together with a ZOOM screen share.  Bring everyone together for a ZOOM call.  Drive by and honk.  Leave a surprise at the door.  Tomorrow, I’m going to play a game online with my grandkids!

HEALTHY AT HOME with your health coach

I was so happy and encouraged from the big impact that little coloring book made, that I had an idea.  An idea that we should have done earlier but we can still do it now.  We are asking for health coaches to step up and join our coalition to make everyone healthy together so that there will be increased health and immunity to combat subsequent waves of the virus and any other illnesses.  Fun, simple, and healthy habits that encourage daily improvement in health, energy, immunity, and happiness.

If you want to join us, click here and we’ll invite you to a meeting with all the details.

I feel like at this time, health coaches, probably even more than anyone, have a chance to step up and show what we can do and make a huge difference in everyone’s life.  This is a not for profit coalition and we’ll all be donating our time and talent.
