Lessons in Leadership
BLOG STYLE
We’ve been working off the same blog proportions of the perfect blog post according to 2010 mandates, and so, while discussing SEO last week, I decided it was time to change it up a bit. Twelve years pass pretty fast. While authenticity and accuracy, as well as proofreading and spelling, are still essential, it may not be so important to break it up with pretty pictures and drawings. I’m not so sure that our reader is reading at a 7th-grade level anymore, either.
COMMUNICATION STYLE
Honesty is so important. I do know that you all want truth and that now, more than ever, once a person loses trust, it is difficult to win that trust back. So fact-checking and honesty is the number one value now and always.
Helpfulness is what spurs us all to be here to share. The more value we can give in our articles, podcasts, newsletters, books, courses, and blogs, the more value we share in the world. Pack your blog full of valuable and helpful information for your readers.
Simplicity in conversation is essential in communication for us. I talked about 7th-grade reading level, and I wasn’t being funny. Blogs aren’t scientific thesis papers. Unless you are writing your blog to rocket scientists, your communication should be simple for a broad audience of people. If you are a doctor speaking to doctors, it is different than if you are a doctor talking to patients. Remember, you may use doctor speak in the office that you understand as nurses, doctors, nutritionists, health coaches, and functional practitioners. Still, the patients don’t get it, which is who need to understand. You will appeal to more readers if you get into their hearts, minds, and souls.
MY FAVORITE TOOLS FOR BLOGGING
I use two tools for blogging. One helped to teach me better grammar overall. The nuns did a pretty decent job in elementary school, but I had some bad habits that lingered that Grammarly helped to kick. Not only does it catch my boo-boos, but it also tells me if I sound pleasant when I am making a statement. I use it for everything I write, and I write day in and day out. All of our Starter-Sites use Yoast for SEO. That also convinced me to start working on a new blog format. Some coaches are working on their SEO using Yoast’s green light system.
